Hyundai Sonata 2013 GLS - Instrument Cluster Removal

Hyundai Sonata 2013 GLS - Instrument Cluster Removal.

1. Remove the steering wheel bar cover applying pressure down and pulling forward.  Look at the picture the green circle show the clips holding the cover.

2. Remove the two screws inside the red circles.

3. Pull the cluster forward.  The cluster is held by two plastic clips on the back.  Pop one side first and then the other.  Look a the pictures to have a better a idea of the kind of clips you dealing with.

This is the back of the panel.

The green circles show where the clips attach to the car.

4. Disconnect the plug, the instrument cluster only has one cable.  Press the security tab down a pull the cable away from the panel.

Note: To place the panel back in position revert the steps.  If you did any job in your cluster I suggest to test the panel before screwing it in place.

The next steps are to fully disassembly the panel.

5.  Using a flathead screwdriver lift the plastic clip that hold the front of the panel. Lift them one by one, do not apply a lot of force.  The clips should pop out with little effort.

After this step the needles are exposed, handle the panel with care you don't want to break or scratch the panel.

6. Using a flathead screwdriver lift the plastic clip (Green circle) that hold the back cover.  Use the same care as with the front cover.

7. Remove ribbon cables lifting the brown security tab up. The cable should come out free with no force at all.

8. Remove the screw right by the cable. This screw hold the little screen in front of the panel (Gas and Doors indicators).
9. Repeat the operation for the second screen.

10. Remove speedometer and tachometer needles.  The needles are placed in by force.  You need to remember what is the cero position of the needles (where the needle stop when moving contra-clockwise).  Moving the needle contra clockwise start pulling it up, this will require a little bit of force, but don't break the needle.

11. Remove the two screws that hold the printed board to the plastic.

12. Remove the two bulb light.  don't have a picture of it.

To re assembly the cluster reverse the steps.

This is excellent info. Do you have a write up on how to remove the trim piece just to the right of the cluster. The one that wraps around the right side of the speedometer. Thanks!
